Sadly, with the decline of the US dollar, we no longer have too much to brag about compared to the Swiss Franc. We are, however, still up on them by a few cents (hey, something to cling to). So when you read that Museumsnacht Bern (which is this Friday, so get your tickets) will set you back 25 CHF (or free for under-16s), you can revel in the fact that you’ll only be paying $24.75 USD. Or 18 Euro if you’ve completely switched over.
And while to some that’s a small fortune, consider this: the night’s festivities don’t merely include most of the sleek Swiss town’s museums remaining open from 6 pm to 2 am and illuminated with a gorgeous light show complete with gobos. Stick around for some world class culinary treats and drinks, and you have yourself dinner, a show, and a trip around a museum (or five) for a pretty reasonable price. And food is not exclusive to appetizers at the beginning of the night, there will also be a “Cooking and Eating as the Romans” demonstration courtesy of De-Gustatio.
That’s not the only Roman part of the evening (and yes, we did try to come up with a Roman/roamin’ pun). The night is dedicated to Ancient Greek and Roman art, capping off with a midnight fashion show–”Back to Basic: Romans and Greeks on the Catwalk.” If it’s all Greek to you, your admission price includes the use of “Rent-a-Student” services between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Some of the sharpest and hippest minds when it comes to Classics will happily give you a 10 minute guided tour/crash course in the art of antiquities.
And if you don’t have a hotel or hostel booked for the occasion, you can stay out late (or early) enough to party it up and enjoy a late night train to a more reasonably-priced city. It’s that worth the trip. Another bang for your (25) bucks: public transportation is gratis for the evening.

Thanks, monixita!
